Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Engineer to lead Real-time Defect Analysis (RDA) strategies within NAND Technology Development (TD) at our Singapore site. This role is centered on driving innovative defect detection methodologies to advance NAND technology nodes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the site-level RDA strategy and yearly roadmap aligned with NAND TD technology advancements.
  • Lead comprehensive analysis of both experimental and production semiconductor flows to identify and categorize defects, determining their trends and impacts.
  • Define, monitor, and report key health metrics for RDA programs including baseline status, defect detection accuracy, false positive rates, and mean time to resolution (MTTR).
  • Direct rapid response actions for defect excursions, initiating tool quarantines, setting hold criteria, and overseeing 8D problem-solving corrective action plans.
  • Design optimal inspection recipes and sampling protocols that balance sensitivity, throughput, and cost effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with Process Integration, Yield Analytics, and Data Science teams to link inspection signals with device performance and overall yield outcomes.
  • Influence supplier technology roadmaps through evaluation and qualification of next-generation optical and electron-beam inspection systems.
  • Standardize and distribute Best Known Methods (BKMs) for RDA across global technology development and manufacturing locations.
  • Mentor and guide engineering personnel to enhance their skills, establish succession plans, and develop technical career pathways within RDA.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement by leading Kaizen and lean initiatives to reduce cycle times and accelerate learning.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Engage closely with Technology Development (TD) Process and Integration teams.
  • Work with Yield Analysis and Data Science organizations to deepen understanding of defect impacts.
  • Coordinate with Global Manufacturing and Operations for seamless implementation of RDA initiatives.
  • Partner with inspection and metrology equipment suppliers to stay at the forefront of technology.
  • Align with program and engineering leadership across regional sites to ensure strategic cohesion.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 7 years of relevant industrial experience in semiconductors or Master’s/PhD with 5+ years.
  • At least one year of hands-on experience in Real-time Defect Analysis within semiconductor manufacturing or equipment engineering environments.
  • Proven expertise in defect inspection methodologies, process monitoring, and yield improvement techniques.

Technical Expertise

  • In-depth knowledge of Real-time Defect Analysis systems and workflows.
  • Experience with optical and electron-beam inspection technologies.
  • Strong skills in statistical data analysis, correlation development, and managing large datasets.
  • Understanding of semiconductor process integration and technology development.
  • Competency in root cause analysis using systematic problem-solving approaches such as 8D and DMAIC.

Leadership and Behavioral Expectations

  • Recognized as a technical authority capable of influencing without direct reporting lines.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and coaching capabilities with a focus on talent development.
  • Clear and effective communication skills tailored for both technical and executive audiences.
  • Ownership mindset with strong execution skills and comfort operating within ambiguous environments.

Impact and Success Metrics

  • Reduction of defect-induced yield losses and acceleration of learning cycles.
  • Timely qualification and deployment of next-generation inspection technologies.
  • Enhanced organizational depth in RDA skills and robust succession planning.
  • Strategic alignment of inspection techniques with future NAND technology nodes.
