Position Overview

We seek a Staff AI Engineer to join our 2nd Horizon team, a skunkworks group focused on extending observability beyond technical infrastructure into business data analytics. The objective is to create AI-enhanced tools that help users and AI agents interpret and act on enterprise data effectively.

This role suits individuals with a strong software engineering background, passion for rapid iteration and experimentation, and a focus on delivering scalable AI-driven features that improve user workflows related to large datasets and analytics. The position involves diverse responsibilities with a high level of ownership and cross-functional collaboration in a collaborative, curiosity-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and ship AI-powered solutions that assist users in discovering, organizing, and efficiently accessing large-scale datasets.
• Engage in rapid prototyping and iterative development, testing AI models such as LLMs and agent-powered workflows to refine data engineering processes.
• Partner with teammates and internal stakeholders to incorporate AI-driven features, including integrating agentic tools with platforms like Slack and alerting systems.
• Utilize AI and automation technologies to augment both product capabilities and development efficiency.
• Communicate effectively within dynamic teams to contribute to project goals and share insights.
• Take end-to-end ownership of AI projects, ensuring solutions are innovative, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with user needs.

Candidate Profile

• Proven ability to build and deliver production-quality, user-facing software applications independently.
• Practical experience with AI technologies and frameworks, focusing on solutions that function robustly in real-world scenarios.
• Comfortable with iterative development cycles including prototyping, feedback gathering, and continuous improvements.
• A proactive and self-driven approach with a knack for navigating ambiguity and defining project scopes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, open to feedback and solution-oriented interactions.

Essential Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), context engineering, and developing GenAI-powered applications.
• Track record of launching software into production environments actively used by end users.
• Exposure to cloud-native platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Familiarity with observability tools for monitoring and debugging system performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with agent frameworks or coordinating multi-agent workflows.
• Background in data analysis or working with data platforms like Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Exposure to building data engineering tools.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary for candidates based in Germany ranges between €109,000 and €137,000 annually, subject to level, experience, and skills. Additional benefits include equity options and potential bonuses.
