Solution Architect

Role Overview

This role is responsible for designing IT solution architectures that fulfill business needs. Key tasks include developing solution architecture blueprints for assigned systems, prioritizing work initiatives, defining design and development standards, reviewing functional and non-functional requirements, conducting solution reviews, and managing risks across projects to ensure delivery is timely, of high quality, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Design comprehensive end-to-end technical solutions that align with the business strategy and objectives for the Line of Business (LOB).
• Collaborate with architects from other LOBs to find synergies, promote adoption of common tools, and standardize technologies enterprise-wide.
• Participate in establishing architecture governance frameworks, methodologies, and compliance programs within the organization.
• Produce solution architecture deliverables such as functional and non-functional requirements reviews, technical architecture documents, interface specifications, and high-level design artifacts.
• Decompose complex application requirements into detailed functional views, preferably using domain-driven design principles.
• Identify microservices and define APIs for various domains.
• Guide development teams strategically to align their work with broader business goals.
• Implement communication strategies to inform and educate stakeholders regarding solution architecture purposes and benefits.
• Plan and carry out proofs of concept to validate feasibility of complex and emerging technology solutions.
• Promote innovation that creates value for both the business and customers.
• Work alongside third-party suppliers and internal IT teams to create and implement robust solutions and application interfaces.
• Ensure system designs are scalable, maintainable, resilient, sustainable, manageable, and cost-efficient while adhering to business requirements.
• Oversee thorough testing of non-functional requirements and implement corrective or preventive measures.
• Assess production readiness prior to application releases.
• Lead root cause analyses for critical incidents in production systems and recommend prevention strategies.
• Apply relevant technical policies, standards, and best practices in projects and programs.
• Anticipate project risks and issues, collaborating with teams to develop solutions and mitigation plans.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, computer applications, commerce, or business administration.
• More than 10 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years specializing in microservices architecture.
• Experience working through the Software Development Life Cycle and employing Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean, or SAFe.
• Knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps practices along with software quality assurance processes.
• Expertise in solution architecture, enterprise integration patterns, and software design and development.
• Proven ability in large-scale product and solution design and managing critical production support and problem resolution.
• Capability to devise system roadmaps aligned with business objectives.
• Awareness of industry technology trends and how emerging technologies may impact different units within the organization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with effective troubleshooting ability.
• Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and lead diverse project stakeholders toward successful outcomes.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
