Job description

About the Company

This organization specializes in residential solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, managing the entire process from design through installation, commissioning, and Permission to Operate (PTO). They offer flexible payment options including cash, loans, leases, or PPAs, aiming to provide accessible clean energy solutions while ensuring high standards for quality and compliance. The team fosters collaboration and precision, emphasizing ownership and transparency between field and office operations to deliver a smooth customer journey from contract signing to PTO.

Role Overview

The Solar Permitting Coordinator acts as the vital link between engineering, utilities, Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), and field teams. Responsibilities include reviewing plans to ensure they meet utility standards, submitting interconnection and permit applications, managing utility and AHJ portals, handling inquiries, and coordinating with engineering and project teams to guide projects through inspections and final PTO. Expertise in utility interconnections, strong attention to detail, and persistence are key to success, with Connecticut-specific knowledge considered advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine solar and energy storage system designs for compliance with utility requirements prior to submission.
  • Submit residential interconnection applications to utility companies.
  • File building and electrical permits with local AHJs.
  • Manage digital portals for utilities and AHJs, ensuring documents are uploaded, forms completed, and records maintained accurately.
  • Verify that system specifications, electrical details, equipment data, and customer information on all applications are correct.
  • Monitor application progress and deadlines, following up proactively to avoid delays.
  • Address RFIs, corrections, and follow-ups from utilities and AHJs.
  • Facilitate re-submissions and revisions between design, project management, and external contacts.
  • Track interconnection approvals and conditions, relaying requirements to the team.
  • Organize inspections and prerequisites necessary for meter swaps and PTO.
  • Take full ownership of the PTO process, ensuring final approvals and documentation are achieved.
  • Maintain an up-to-date project status report and database for all active assignments.
  • Identify potential delays early, such as service upgrades or transformer constraints.
  • Coordinate the timing of permitting and interconnection activities with procurement and construction schedules.
  • Keep informed on Connecticut-specific codes, utility tariffs, and program guidelines.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in residential solar interconnection and/or permitting processes.
  • Proficiency with utility and AHJ online portals, spreadsheet applications, PDF markup tools, and interpreting electrical plan sets.
  • Comprehensive understanding of residential solar EPC operations, National Electrical Code (NEC), utility standards, and AHJ permitting processes; prior experience in Connecticut preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an emphasis on documentation accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with utilities, AHJs, engineers, project managers, and homeowners.
  • Persistent and proactive in driving applications through to approval.
  • Aptitude for reading plan sets, single-line diagrams, and site plans.
  • Effective multitasking and time management across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Good judgment regarding when and how to escalate issues.

Work Schedule and Location

  • Work hours: 4 PM to 1 AM Beirut Time, Monday through Friday.
  • Location: Fully remote position.
  • Paid time off: Can be requested any time with appropriate advance notice.
  • Salary range: $2,500 to $3,000 USD per month.
