About the Role

As a Software Engineering Manager at Google, you are expected to possess strong technical skills and leadership abilities, overseeing major projects and a team of engineers. Your responsibilities will stretch across various domains including AI, NLP, distributed systems, security, and more. You will lead teams situated in multiple locations globally, managing substantial budgets and guiding large-scale deployments. Part of the Core team, you will influence key technical decisions by creating foundational solutions that impact Google’s broad product ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and communicate team priorities aligned with company-wide objectives, ensuring coordination of strategy and processes among teams.
  • Set clear individual expectations according to role and level, regularly engaging with each team member to provide guidance and performance feedback.
  • Create and update mid-term technical goals and roadmaps for multiple teams, anticipating future infrastructure and product needs.
  • Lead, evaluate, and refine system designs within the wider organizational context and contribute code to address complex, unstructured problems.
  • Conduct comprehensive code reviews to uphold best practices, including style, correctness, testability, and efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience.
  • At least 3 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Minimum 2 years in team or people management positions.
  • Experience with integrating generative AI tools or incorporating Large Language Models into operational workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience spanning at least 3 years in a complex, matrixed corporate environment.
