About the Role

The Debug team at Google, established over a decade ago, is a multidisciplinary group comprising mosquito biologists, data scientists, engineers, build technicians, and operations experts. The team aims to innovate and deploy solutions to curb diseases transmitted by mosquitoes. Collaborating with international partners, they are engaged in large-scale deployment of Wolbachia mosquitoes to combat mosquito-borne illnesses.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement extensive Wolbachia mosquito replacement and suppression projects alongside regional collaborators.
  • Analyze biological traits and performance of new mosquito strains via insectary and field bioassays.
  • Evaluate the effects of novel rearing techniques and equipment on vital production metrics.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent practical experience in Entomology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience within insect biology.
  • Experience designing and executing public health initiatives, pest management interventions, or other logistics-based projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years working on large-scale rearing and quality control of mosquitoes or other insect species.
  • Hands-on experience refining mosquito intervention techniques such as Sterile Insect Technique (SIT), bed net deployment, or pesticide application.
  • Proficient in molecular biology methods including DNA extraction and quantitative PCR.
  • Analytical skills with tools such as Google Sheets, R, Python, or similar platforms to aid daily activities and reporting.
  • Ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment, with flexible work hours to meet project goals.
