About the Role

We are partnering with a company based in the United Arab Emirates seeking a Software Engineer skilled in Python and Kubernetes. This role involves developing open source software aimed at transforming the operation of complex information systems across public clouds and private infrastructure.

You will focus on building Python-driven operations software to automate and streamline workloads running on Kubernetes, engaging with technologies across the Linux stack such as networking, storage, virtualization, containers, and applications. The position emphasizes software engineering discipline alongside reliability, scalability, testing, and operational best practices. Collaboration with globally distributed teams to deliver production-level solutions for users of modern cloud technologies is a key element.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain open source operational software using Python, targeting reliability and scalability in Kubernetes workloads.
• Work extensively with the Linux technology stack, covering kernel operations, networking, storage solutions, virtualization, container orchestration, and application layers.
• Create solutions that enhance automation, reliability, and operational productivity of complex open source systems.
• Develop and optimize high-quality monitoring and alerting tools to ensure dependable production operations.
• Make open source technologies easier to operate for customers and community users.
• Apply robust software architecture, engineering standards, thorough testing, documentation, and maintain high-quality development practices throughout all phases.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure product reliability, efficiency, and scalability in production environments.
• Adopt agile development methodologies and participate actively in effective development workflows.
• Share expertise and mentor team members to enhance overall engineering capabilities.
• Foster a collaborative and healthy engineering culture within a globally dispersed organization.
• Work remotely with occasional participation in global company and team events, typically requiring travel once or twice annually for up to two weeks.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in Computer Science, STEM, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in developing software using Python and enthusiasm for addressing technically complex challenges.
• Practical experience administering Linux systems, managing packages, and handling production operations.
• Prior hands-on exposure to at least one public cloud platform.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes, with a solid grasp of containerized application environments.
• Strong comprehension of software reliability principles with a firm commitment to designing dependable systems.
• Interest and understanding of distributed systems and capability to work across multiple layers of Linux and cloud technology stacks.
• Disciplined software engineering approach including experience in testing, writing maintainable code, and preparing technical documentation.
• Effective organizational and time management abilities focused on delivering quality software punctually.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, capable of functioning efficiently within a globally distributed engineering environment.
