Role Overview

Join a dedicated team advancing AI-assisted engineering applied to an established product used by large engineering organizations. The CDRO (Continuous Delivery & Release Orchestration) product has a decade-long presence in production, relied upon by hundreds of engineers for safe software delivery on time. The team is distributed globally and balances modernization with stability.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Java development efforts across critical components such as REST APIs, pipeline execution engines, and persistence layers.
• Continuously simplify and enhance the codebase by modernizing legacy subsystems, reducing unnecessary complexity, improving test coverage, and maintaining code quality.
• Incorporate Claude Code AI tools into daily workflows to accelerate development thoughtfully.
• Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure functionality, emphasizing early testing rather than relying on QA catch-up.
• Document technical knowledge thoroughly to support asynchronous collaboration across time zones.
• Prevent becoming a bottleneck by sharing ownership and promoting team-wide understanding of codebases and features.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of professional experience in Java software development within production systems not initially authored by you, with an understanding of the importance of reliability.
• Good familiarity with AI coding aids such as Claude Code or Cursor and practical experimentation with such tools.
• Experience with relational databases, including SQL, JPA/Hibernate, and schema migrations; exposure to Oracle or PostgreSQL is advantageous.
• Comfortable navigating and working within extensive, mature codebases, capable of hypothesizing and validating despite incomplete initial understanding.
• Strong testing mindset with a habit of incorporating tests during development.
• Open and transparent communicator, essential for distributed, asynchronous teamwork.

Desirable Skills

• Regular use of Claude Code for delivering substantive work and enthusiasm for exploring AI-assisted development further.
• Ability or willingness to quickly learn Groovy programming.
• Experience deploying and troubleshooting workloads in Kubernetes and Helm environments.
• Background with system evolution tasks such as migrations, incremental rewrites, and dependency upgrades.

Additional Preferred Knowledge

• Familiarity with Jenkins or other Continuous Integration/Delivery systems.
• Understanding of distributed system components like message brokers (ActiveMQ, Artemis, RabbitMQ) and coordination tools (Zookeeper).
• Basic acquaintance with React and TypeScript frameworks, as the UI is adjacent but not core to this role.

Work Conditions and Location

• Standard work hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or as business requires.
• This is a hybrid role based in Chennai, India.
