Software Engineer - Java

About the Role

Join Global Payments Inc. as a Software Engineer specializing in Java based in Cambridge, UK. In this position, you will contribute to one of the world's largest payment platforms, supporting a system that handles over 800 transactions per second and exceeds 10 million payments daily. A background in payments or fintech is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and design software solutions in Java, SQL, and PLSQL for an ecommerce payments gateway within a 24/7 mission-critical environment ensuring 99.999% uptime.
• Adhere to product specifications and business value drivers while following Worldpay architecture and engineering standards.
• Maintain code quality, agile methodologies, and manage technical debt.
• Collaborate closely with team members including software engineers and QA through code reviews, knowledge transfer, and mentorship.
• Work with global engineering teams located in the UK and US.
• Participate in retrospectives and contribute to continuous improvement of team and departmental processes.
• Be available as needed beyond regular office hours for releases and deployments.
• Engage in the entire software development lifecycle alongside solution designers, release teams, support, and business stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

• Proven ability to develop secure, maintainable, and testable Java distributed applications within Linux environments.
• Strong understanding of relational databases (Oracle preferred), software architecture, and common design patterns.
• Positive, proactive mindset with strong teamwork, able to prioritize effectively under pressure.
• Commitment to high-quality work and encouraging the same in colleagues.
• Experience working with large codebases and version control tools.
• Familiarity with Linux in both development and production settings.

Essential Technical Skills

• Java programming

• Understanding of TLS, PKI certificates, and tools like Keyfactor and Sectigo
• Apache web server configuration
• Containerization technologies (Docker, Podman)

• Familiarity with data formats like XML, JSON, YAML
• Experience with cloud platforms AWS and Azure
