About the Role
We are seeking a Software Engineer 3 to advance the deployment of Voyage's embedding models, which support semantic search, retrieval, and AI-driven experiences, beyond MongoDB Atlas into various platforms where customers operate their workloads. You will be part of the Search and AI Platform team, collaborating closely with engineers developing Voyage's native inference capabilities. Our objective is to deliver consistent Voyage model performance across cloud marketplaces, third-party inference providers, and self-managed environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Adapt and optimize the model server running Voyage's embedding and reranking models to enhance inference speed, consistency, and runtime stability across multiple environments.
- Deploy and maintain new Voyage models for delivery beyond MongoDB Atlas by managing packaging, configuration, and workflows for AWS, Azure, GCP, and other platforms.
- Develop validation processes to ensure third-party deployments precisely mirror first-party behavior in terms of correctness, correlation, and performance.
- Integrate operational features including structured logging, metrics, diagnostic tools, and health monitoring utilizing Prometheus and OpenTelemetry.
- Troubleshoot issues spanning model servers, container configurations, deployment workflows, and partner cloud setups.
- Collaborate with Voyage’s model-serving teams and coordinate with GTM, SAs, TSEs, and strategic customers to manage complex external deployments.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 4 years experience designing backend systems, infrastructure tooling, and continuous integration environments.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python or Go, with a focus on software performance and reliability.
- Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Strong debugging skills across full stacks including code, runtime environments, model servers, configuration, and external dependencies.
- Knowledgeable about machine learning model serving and inference runtime concepts, even if not directly deploying models.
- Excellent communication abilities and thrives in ambitious, collaborative cross-team initiatives.
- Driven to ensure dependable operation of Voyage's AI models wherever customers choose to deploy them.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in production deployment or maintenance of ML model servers or inference runtimes such as vLLM, Triton, or TGI.
- Familiarity with observability toolsets including Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience releasing software through cloud marketplaces or partner/self-managed channels.
- Contributions to open-source projects related to ML serving or deployment infrastructure.
