Site Reliability Engineer - Traffic Infrastructure

About the Team

The Traffic Infrastructure team develops unified platform capabilities to manage ByteDance's global edge infrastructure, spanning China and international locations. This includes both proprietary and third-party infrastructure, aiming to provide standardized, compliant, scalable, and cost-effective traffic infrastructure services for edge computing. The team's vision is to establish a global edge traffic infrastructure platform that will serve as the long-term foundation for ByteDance's worldwide edge business concerning scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure the stability of ByteDance's Network-Traffic Infrastructure through ongoing operation and maintenance.
• Oversee the delivery, deployment, and change management of production systems, including facilities, components, and products, while improving operational efficiency.
• Design and implement systems for ensuring stability, including observability features such as monitoring, alerting, and logging; conduct root cause analysis, impact assessments, and resolve issues through manual or automated means.
• Develop and manage emergency response frameworks encompassing ticket handling, risk governance, emergency actions, and ongoing system optimizations to enhance response capabilities under risk scenarios.

Qualifications

• At minimum, a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.
• At least three years of experience in research and development, system operations and maintenance, or site reliability engineering.
• Strong familiarity with infrastructure architectures and key technologies such as Kubernetes, edge computing, cloud networking, load balancing, and microservice architectures.
• Exceptional analytical skills accompanied by effective communication, a strong sense of responsibility, and a collaborative team approach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience in operational maintenance and stability assurance within Kubernetes, cloud computing, edge computing, and cloud networking environments.
• Deep knowledge of high availability systems, stability assurance, and emergency response for infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Expertise in managing risks, identifying potential system hazards, and mitigating failures in distributed or infrastructure systems.
