Site Engineer

Overview

The Site Mechanic will be stationed at the construction site and will report to the Plant & Machinery Incharge or Project Manager. This role involves the complete maintenance lifecycle of all construction-related machinery, equipment, and vehicles with the goal of maximizing operational uptime and ensuring safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections of all site machinery and vehicles prior to starting work.
• Handle maintenance and repair tasks on equipment such as transit mixers, dumpers, JCBs, excavators, wheel loaders, cranes, concrete pumps, batching plants, DG sets, compressors, dewatering pumps, site vehicles, and other onsite mechanical devices.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns, swiftly restoring equipment functionality.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities including engine oil, filters, hydraulic fluids, greasing, coolant, batteries, brakes, tyres, belts, hoses, and hydraulic system checks.
• Diagnose faults related to mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, engine, transmission, brake, steering, and fuel systems.
• Keep and update preventive maintenance schedules referencing equipment run-hours and kilometers as per manufacturers' guidelines.
• Log daily machine operational data, breakdown incidents, repairs, parts replacements, lubricant usage, and upcoming service dates.
• Prohibit operation of machinery overdue for critical servicing or with unsafe defects unless expressly approved.
• Stock essential spares, lubricants, and consumables onsite to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with operators to detect early signs of equipment issues such as sounds, vibrations, leaks, or performance decline.
• Perform daily safety and condition checks covering oil/fuel leaks, brakes, tyres, batteries, lights, horn, safety alarms, fire extinguishers, and other safety devices.
• Track fuel consumption to identify abnormal usage or leaks and report findings immediately.
• Manage and oversee external servicing vendors and verify their work quality before machine acceptance.
• Maintain tools and workshop equipment in good condition, ensuring security and accountability.
• Ensure safety compliance during welding, lifting, cutting, and repair tasks with correct PPE and supports.
• Report significant incidents such as accidents, major damage, engine or hydraulic failures, or recurring breakdowns promptly to Management.
• Maintain all machinery documentation including registrations, insurance, certificates, service records, warranties, and manuals.
• Promote cleanliness and orderliness of the repair workshop, oil storage, and equipment parking zones.
• Submit daily reports summarizing plant and machinery operational status, breakdowns, repair actions, spare requirements, and outstanding servicing needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• ITI or Diploma in Diesel Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Automobile, Mechanical, or related discipline is preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining construction machinery and commercial vehicles is desirable.
• Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, heavy equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Capability to independently identify and resolve common onsite machinery breakdowns.

Authority & Responsibility

The Site Mechanic must immediately alert the Plant & Machinery supervisor if any equipment poses a safety risk or is at risk of damaging further if continued in operation. The principal duty is to maintain all machinery and vehicles in safe, fully operational condition ensuring minimal downtime and consistent availability.

Compensation

The monthly salary for this position ranges from INR 25,000 to INR 35,000.
