Simulator Operator

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Simulator Operator based in Cairns to support immersive and innovative maritime training experiences. This is a permanent, full-time position primarily stationed at the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College with occasional duties at other campuses.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Kongsberg Ship Simulator along with all related hardware and software systems.
• Administer simulator sessions for accredited maritime courses, commercial contracts, and non-accredited specialized programs including system startups, exercise management, bridge configuration, shutdowns, and troubleshooting.
• Design simulator scenarios and exercises collaboratively with educators to enhance training effectiveness.
• Support improvements in business procedures to establish GBRIMC as a leading marine simulation training center.
• Ensure adherence to maritime policies and procedures related to the Kongsberg simulator.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders such as educators, students, clients, and technical support teams.
• Conduct database updates, maintenance, and perform administrative record-keeping tasks.
• Stay informed about industry standards such as the STCW 1978 regulations, maritime legislation, current trends, and new product developments.
• Participate in research and development activities relevant to business functions.
• Align daily operations with broader business goals and contribute positively to organizational culture by exemplifying initiative, collaboration, customer focus, and accountability.

Key Assessment Criteria

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary and project-driven environments.
• Understanding of maritime principles including electronic navigation.
• Commitment to quality outcomes and keeping abreast of new technologies, applying them suitably.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with capacity to liaise and negotiate with a diverse client base, effectively conveying technical information.
• Flexibility, responsiveness, initiative, and aptitude for thriving in dynamic, evolving conditions.
• Advanced ICT problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent certification.
• Maritime qualifications, ideally in Deck or Watchkeeping.
• Experience or training in simulator or virtual environments.
