As a Senior/Principal Network Planning Engineer, you will take the helm in shaping the strategic development of Auckland's electrical infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include analyzing and predicting future network demands, recognizing capacity limitations, and devising practical engineering and investment solutions supported by advanced network modeling and analysis. You will play an integral role in contributing to the Asset Management Plan, managing major customer connections, preparing business cases, setting planning standards, and supporting continuous enhancements.
This role offers a unique chance to build a strong connection with a specific area within Auckland's network and significantly influence its evolution, addressing emerging challenges related to electrification, electric vehicles, distributed generation, and innovative customer energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead network planning for a designated area by assessing future needs and constraints.
- Develop and propose investment and customer-focused solutions grounded in thorough network modeling and engineering assessment.
- Contribute to core planning documents including the Asset Management Plan and planning standards.
- Collaborate closely with customers, engineering, delivery, operational, and asset planning teams to provide clear and actionable technical guidance.
- At the Principal level, provide leadership by mentoring engineers and influencing company-wide planning practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, complemented by at least five years of relevant experience in electricity distribution or equivalent engineering sectors; a Master’s degree is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of electricity distribution network planning, with technical expertise to handle complex scenarios and create solid planning and investment responses.
- Proficiency with power system modeling and simulation tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, or similar platforms, alongside strong analytical capabilities.
- A self-driven and confident professional who can independently manage and advance complex assignments with sound judgment.
- Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills, capable of building trusted relationships and simplifying complex engineering ideas for diverse audiences.
- For Principal-level candidates: demonstrated skills in technical leadership, coaching, or mentoring.
