About The Role
ClickHouse is initiating a key Postgres project to enhance its developer-centric cloud platform. This initiative enables seamless integration of Postgres with ClickHouse to facilitate comprehensive data workflows.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to this platform's development. This full-stack systems engineering role involves diverse responsibilities across control plane services, automation, operational tooling, and improving developer experience. The role suits engineers comfortable with fluid boundaries, complex technical challenges, and delivering significant impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend services that manage and orchestrate database clusters within ClickHouse Cloud.
- Enhance the platform's control plane—developed using Ruby, Go, and TypeScript—to incorporate new Postgres capabilities.
- Develop PostgreSQL extensions and data plane agents using C, C++, or Rust.
- Create automation tools to simplify tasks such as cluster provisioning, scalability, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure, SRE, and product teams to maintain high standards for operational excellence, system performance, and reliability.
- Build APIs and integrations exposing new Postgres functionalities for customers and internal projects.
- Enhance observability, deployment security, and debugging processes related to database services.
- Engage in design discussions, conduct code reviews, and participate in on-call rotations to improve team reliability and productivity.
- Work independently by identifying opportunities, driving execution, and implementing impactful solutions.
Candidate Profile
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 6 years in software engineering, preferably with a background in database or cloud platform systems development or operations.
- Postgres Knowledge: Comprehensive expertise in Postgres configuration, extensions, operational procedures, and performance tuning.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in one or more programming languages including Ruby, Go, Rust, C, or Python, with readiness to work across different languages.
- Cloud & Automation: Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, API design, and automation tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Systems Understanding: Knowledge of distributed systems, data replication methods, and patterns for orchestrating services.
- Approach: Pragmatic, attentive to detail, adaptable to both new development and maintenance tasks.
- Flexibility: Comfortable working on diverse components ranging from backend APIs and platform automation to Postgres internals and troubleshooting.
- Collaboration: Effective communicator who thrives in fast-paced, cross-functional team environments.
- Ownership: Exhibits a founder's mindset, proactively driving projects with a strong sense of responsibility and urgency.
