Role Overview

As a Software Engineer within GovTech, you will contribute independently to various components or features within your team, handling moderately complex tasks. The role balances quality, speed, and maintainability, while emphasizing collaboration in design and planning. You will take initiative in proposing enhancements, assisting colleagues, and expanding your understanding of the broader product and system landscape. Your influence will stretch beyond individual assignments to improve team workflows and product outcomes, ensuring the delivery of reliable and maintainable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement proof of concepts and features across multiple modules, seeking guidance as necessary.
• Make informed decisions balancing performance, security, and maintainability tailored to the context.
• Consistently write and review code focusing on clarity and maintainability, following best practices.
• Enhance test coverage including unit and integration tests to strengthen key workflows and reduce failures.
• Address minor technical debt within the assigned domain.
• Recommend improvements to boost product performance and team efficiency.
• Collaborate in continuous integration and deployment processes.
• Assist with resolving moderate production incidents and escalate complex issues appropriately.
• Deepen understanding of product architecture and dependencies.
• Apply secure coding and compliance standards with guidance, integrating platform requirements.
• Independently plan and complete moderately complex tasks from design through deployment, identifying risks proactively.
• Track and evaluate the impact of developed features post-deployment, addressing bugs or collecting feedback.
• Provide constructive feedback and support to peers and junior engineers, helping to unblock them when needed.
• Align work activities with team goals and product priorities, suggesting improvements and asking clarifying questions.
• Balance immediate delivery demands with long-term codebase health considerations.
• Contribute to discussions on design decisions and trade-offs.

Candidate Profile

• Experience designing, building, or operating software systems with credible understanding of architecture.
• Strong product orientation focusing on user outcomes and evidence-based decision making.
• Familiarity with the software lifecycle progression from discovery to scaling.
• Demonstrates the ability to manage trade-offs between ideal designs and practical delivery constraints.
• Exhibits collaborative attitude working effectively with Product and Design teams.
• Continuous learner who stays current with modern tools and practices including AI-assisted development and platform automation.
