This role centers on the AI Safety and Governance pillar within PlatformAI. As AI technologies grow across government agencies, this role ensures AI applications are secure, fair, and accountable by design.

Responsibilities

• Lead and define the Sovereign Safety Standard to guide AI safety benchmarks specific to various use cases, such as citizen-facing and internal productivity applications.
• Develop a long-term vision for AI Safety-as-a-Service, transitioning from manual governance methods to automated platform features.
• Translate emerging international frameworks and local AI policies into developer-friendly platform capabilities for seamless compliance.
• Oversee the creation of a "Safety Stack": automated tools including evaluations, guardrails, and red-teaming functionalities to enable teams to deploy large language models rapidly and securely.
• Architect the "Governance Layer" that delivers observability and risk dashboards, granting a unified view of AI compliance across the government ecosystem.
• Lead the design of automated evaluation engines to detect prompt injection, PII leakage, toxicity, hallucination, and other AI safety risks during product development and post-deployment.
• Collaborate with Engineering to embed safety checks within CI/CD pipelines, promoting safety-by-design without hampering deployment velocity.
• Create real-time monitoring mechanisms to identify jailbreak attempts and detect model drift, enabling quick interventions for live AI systems.
• Act as the liaison between Policy/Legal and Engineering teams to ensure technical solutions align with legal and ethical guidelines.
• Promote a safety-conscious culture by developing playbooks, standardizing red-teaming exercises, and educating teams about emerging vulnerabilities in language models.
• Define and monitor key performance indicators including Mean Time to Detect vulnerabilities, Policy Coverage percentage, and Guardrail Efficacy rates to track the effectiveness of safety measures.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced senior product leader with a track record managing complex technical products centered on Security, Governance, or AI/ML infrastructure.
• Expertise in AI Safety, especially regarding generative AI risks like prompt injection, data poisoning, and algorithmic bias, with up-to-date knowledge of AI safety research.
• Strong translator skills to convert ethical and policy principles into clear technical specifications and APIs.
• Analytical aptitude employing data-driven evaluation frameworks such as RAG evaluation, perplexity metrics, or benchmarking to assess AI system performance and risks.
• Empathy for developer workflows and a commitment to delivering safety tools that accelerate development rather than impede it.
