Team Overview

The Technical Operations team at Toast delivers measurable engineering insights by integrating tool usage, engineering metrics, and customer outcomes into a unified, reliable dashboard used by executives, managers, and developers daily.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead the team technically by overseeing the architecture and strategic direction of services, internal tools, and data systems, managing projects from conception through deployment.
• Create backend services and integrations that ingest engineering, tooling, and cost data from diverse sources with clear APIs and formal data contracts, eliminating reliance on manual data extraction.
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to prioritize key impactful initiatives and work closely with team members to develop comprehensive solutions.
• Develop backend systems enabling role-based reporting on engineering health, AI and tooling expenditures and ROI, and cost capitalization, transforming recurring manual tasks into reliable, audited, productized analytics tools.
• Ensure quality, reliability, and operational monitoring for critical business reporting used by leaders at various levels.
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews, feedback, and adoption of agentic engineering practices.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, specifically designing, developing, and maintaining production-grade full-stack systems, including data-focused solutions that automate manual operational workflows.
• Demonstrated success in managing significant projects through all phases from design to production rollout with strong business and technical understanding, collaborating effectively with non-engineering stakeholders.
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Python, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI-driven agentic engineering into daily development practices.
• Strong capabilities in backend development, API integration, SQL, and data modeling.
• Competent in modern front-end web technologies sufficient to build prototypes and review front-end implementations.
• Accountability for the complete lifecycle of deployed features, including design review participation, automated testing, monitoring, and production support.
• This position operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring presence in the Dublin office two days each week.
