Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer on the AI Workload Orchestration Platform team, you will spearhead the technical vision for Kubernetes-native orchestration strategies dedicated to AI workloads. You will architect the admission, scheduling, and governance across substantial GPU clusters using frameworks like Kueue, Volcano, and Ray, complementing CoreWeave's SUNK platform. Collaboration across multiple teams will be critical to enhance platform scalability, stability, and developer usability.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the architecture and vision for key components of the AI Workload Orchestration Platform.
- Design and implement scalable, dependable orchestration tools operating across diverse schedulers and runtimes.
- Facilitate cross-team architecture discussions, aligning infrastructure, CKS, and managed inference groups.
- Establish platform benchmarks for reliability, observability, capacity planning, and operational excellence.
- Investigate and resolve performance, scalability, and fairness challenges within large GPU environments.
- Mentor senior engineers, fostering technical growth and leadership.
- Represent the platform in technical evaluations and influence CoreWeave’s broader platform direction.
Qualifications
- Minimum of eight years in software engineering with substantial experience in distributed systems or cloud platform development.
- Advanced proficiency in Go and expertise in architecting robust, large-scale, long-lived systems.
- In-depth understanding of Kubernetes internals, including scheduling and controller architectures.
- Experience designing or improving orchestration, resource scheduling, or management frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects across multiple teams without direct managerial power.
- A strong operational focus, with history managing mission-critical systems at scale.
Preferred Experience
- Practical knowledge of Kubernetes-native orchestration frameworks such as Kueue, Volcano, or Ray.
- Background working with AI infrastructure, machine learning platforms, HPC, or extensive batch and streaming systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of scheduling principles such as fairness, pre-emption, quota control, and multi-tenant isolation.
- Experience in defining and improving SLOs, capacity strategies, and large-scale reliability.
- Contribution record in open-source infrastructure or orchestration projects.
