Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Overview

Join a cutting-edge team focused on engineering and running cloud-native production systems at scale. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) within Ericsson’s EWS SRE group, you will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment dedicated to building robust private clouds and cloud platforms supporting 5G and cloud-native development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain resilient private cloud infrastructure primarily using Kubernetes and related cloud-native technologies.
• Automate workflows and build sophisticated CI/CD pipelines and software supply chains ensuring high reliability and performance.
• Create and enhance systems for monitoring, logging, alerting, and proactive troubleshooting.
• Develop and administer data center networking, Kubernetes CNI implementations, and distributed storage platforms like Ceph and Kubernetes CSI drivers.
• Focus on scaling systems, optimizing performance, remedying systemic issues, and enhancing cloud security and Kubernetes hardening efforts.

Candidate Profile and Skills

We seek applicants with a formal education in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent fields, combined with dedication to continuous improvement and enthusiasm for open-source technologies.

• Experience automating routine processes and building tools, with a detail-oriented approach.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, demonstrating initiative and adaptability.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to maintain service reliability.
• Proficient in Linux distributions such as RHEL, SLES, and Ubuntu; additional Linux kernel knowledge is advantageous.
• Programming expertise in at least one language like Go, Python, or C/C++.
• Background spanning research, development, platform and hardware engineering, IT operations, and cloud service management.
• Skills in Linux system and network administration.
• Good understanding of data center infrastructure with experience in replication, scaling, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with monitoring and metrics integration using open-source tools.
• Experience in CI/CD tools and release engineering practices.
• Hands-on knowledge with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and scripting languages including Go, Python, and Bash.
• Usage of tools such as Git, GitLab, Docker, Rancher, Jenkins, ELK Stack, Redis, Spinnaker, GitOps frameworks, Kubeflow, and Ceph.
• Competence with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools including Ansible and Terraform.
• Deep expertise in cloud-native and Kubernetes ecosystems.
• Experience with eBPF technology and familiarity with Kubeflow/TensorFlow environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cloud components covering compute, storage, networking, databases, and security.

This role is based onsite in Athlone, Ireland (IE). Flexibility to handle on-call duties is required.
