Senior Rust Engineer (AI-Native Industrial Data Platform)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Rust Engineer to design and enhance the foundational engine behind Hioki's AI-driven industrial data and analytics platform. This position involves creating the runtime environment, SDKs, data pipelines, integrations, and platform services that power applications for industrial, edge, and cloud contexts. The role is based in Singapore and entails collaboration with teams located in both Singapore and Japan. This opportunity is ideal for engineers interested in the intersection of hardware, software, and data within real-world industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain core platform functionalities written in Rust.
• Design and optimize SDKs and APIs for developers.
• Create efficient data ingestion and processing workflows.
• Build and maintain connectors integrating industrial equipment, external APIs, and data sources.
• Enhance platform dependability, transparency, and system performance.
• Support deployment across edge and cloud infrastructures.
• Collaborate closely with application engineering teams to simplify and improve developer interactions.
• Employ AI-assisted tools extensively for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation purposes.
• Lead test strategy and quality standards for safety-related industrial software, including automated test coverage and regression controls.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Software or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or comparable experience.
• At least five years of professional software development experience.
• Expertise in Rust programming language.
• Advanced knowledge of systems programming and concurrent computing concepts.
• Experience designing libraries, SDKs, or API platforms.
• Strong proficiency in Linux-based development environments.
• Background in networking, data processing, or distributed system architectures.
• Excellent debugging abilities and skills for enhancing performance.
• Familiarity and comfort using AI-driven coding assistants and workflows.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Tokio or asynchronous Rust programming.
• Knowledge of Foreign Function Interface (FFI) and language bindings.
• Understanding of gRPC and Protocol Buffers technology.
• Familiarity with Embedded Linux systems.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA, Modbus, and BACnet.
• Handling time-series data effectively.
• Exposure to edge computing platforms.
• Use of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Integration with machine learning inference or AI platforms.
• Background in industrial measurement or software systems.
• Expertise in operational technology (OT) security, including secure device provisioning, protocol security over TLS for protocols like MQTT/OPC UA/Modbus, and ensuring data residency compliance for edge deployment.
