Job description
About Analog Devices
Analog Devices, Inc. is a global leader in semiconductors, combining analog, digital, AI, and software technologies to shape innovations at the Intelligent Edge. With a revenue surpassing $11 billion in FY25, the company drives advancements across industries including automation, robotics, healthcare, energy, and data centers.
Role Overview
The Senior RF Layout Engineer will be responsible for the physical implementation and verification of high-performance RF and mixed-signal integrated circuits. This includes translating circuit schematics into manufacturable silicon while meeting criteria for performance, reliability, area optimization, and yield. Close collaboration with design and process teams is essential.
Responsibilities
- Design physical layouts for RF, analog, mixed-signal, and passive circuit components.
- Optimize floor planning and device placement for RF characteristics such as matching, isolation, and manufacturability.
- Engineer high-frequency routing structures including transmission lines, baluns, transformers, inductors, and matching networks.
- Create custom layouts for RF components like LNAs, mixers, PAs, VCOs, PLLs, and switches.
- Conduct physical verification checks: Design Rule Check (DRC), Layout Versus Schematic (LVS), Electrical Rule Check (ERC), antenna and density assessments.
- Support parasitic extraction and post-layout analysis in collaboration with RF designers to troubleshoot yield and performance issues.
- Ensure compliance with foundry and process requirements.
- Generate and refine RF passive layouts and collaborate on electromagnetic simulation methodologies.
- Develop and maintain best practices and reusable layout methodologies in RF design.
- Incorporate AI advancements to enhance RFIC layout processes.
- Work cross-functionally with RFIC designers, CAD, verification, process, and test teams from concept phase through tapeout.
- Participate in design reviews and tapeout readiness assessments, and assist in silicon debug and failure analysis when needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years experience in RFIC, analog, or mixed-signal physical design.
- Proficiency with advanced semiconductor technologies such as CMOS, SiGe BiCMOS, SOI, or RF CMOS.
- Understanding of parasitic effects and electromagnetic behaviors at high frequencies affecting RF performance.
- Experience with isolation structures and current density considerations in IC layout.
- Familiarity with EDA tools including Cadence Virtuoso Layout Suite, Keysight ADS, and Cadence EMX.
- Preferred skills include design of RF passives for frequency ranges from sub-GHz to millimeter wave, foundry tapeout support, and knowledge of automotive, industrial, consumer, or wireless communication products.
- Experience with scripting languages such as SKILL, Python, Perl, or TCL is advantageous.
Additional Information
Applicants may require export licensing approval unless they are US citizens, permanent residents, or protected individuals due to the sensitive nature of some technical data. The role involves approximately 10% travel and corresponds to a first shift daytime schedule. Analog Devices is committed to equal opportunity employment and fosters an inclusive culture that values diversity.
