Job description
Overview
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for overseeing all commercial, contractual, and financial elements related to large-scale construction and infrastructure developments. This position includes cost estimation, contract oversight, risk management, claim handling, and supporting project execution to enhance profitability and reduce risks for the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management, negotiation, and administration of contracts and subcontracts, ensuring adherence to commercial terms and conditions.
- Develop and evaluate cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow plans throughout project stages.
- Handle valuation and management of variations, claims, and change orders, including their preparation, negotiation, and settlement with stakeholders such as clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Supervise interim and final payment submissions, ensuring they are certified and processed promptly.
- Conduct cost analysis, track financial progress, and prepare regular commercial reports for senior management review.
- Support procurement and tendering activities, including evaluation and appointment of suppliers and subcontractors.
- Provide commercial guidance to project teams on risk mitigation, value engineering, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Prepare, review, and reach agreement on final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Maintain thorough contract and commercial documentation with audit-ready records.
- Collaborate with legal, finance, and project management teams to address commercial and contractual challenges.
- Assist in dispute resolution processes such as claim preparation, supporting documentation, and participating in negotiations or legal adjudications.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline, with preference for master’s degree or professional certification.
- At least 7 years of experience as a quantity surveyor, with strong commercial expertise, preferably in construction, infrastructure, or aviation sectors.
- Deep knowledge of contract law and common contract forms including FIDIC, JCT, and NEC.
- Sound commercial understanding with experience managing project budgets, costs, and claims.
- Strong negotiation, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication abilities and stakeholder engagement experience.
- Proficiency in quantity surveying and commercial software tools.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines successfully.
