About the Project and Company
HEB Construction, under the umbrella of VINCI Construction, is engaged in delivering some of New Zealand's most technically demanding civil infrastructure projects. Presently, they are collaborating on the Picton Infrastructure Redevelopment, an important marine and transport initiative enhancing one of New Zealand's pivotal gateway ports.
Role Overview
The Senior Estimator will hold a key position in the project team, contributing to the planning and execution stages of this multi-faceted programme. This role requires meticulous development of cost estimates across diverse scopes, working in tandem with engineering, commercial, and delivery teams. The ideal candidate will have robust experience estimating complex civil infrastructure projects with exposure to large-scale marine or port developments. The position can be based on-site in Marlborough or potentially involve a FIFO setup within New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
- Create comprehensive first-principles estimates for significant civil and marine construction tasks.
- Formulate construction methods and phased plans that support pricing approaches.
- Oversee quantity take-offs, subcontractor quotations, and supplier engagement processes.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and principal cost influences related to projects.
- Provide support in project planning, procurement processes, and commercial decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to refine delivery methods.
- Track industry market trends, price fluctuations, and productivity assumptions.
- Assist in forecasting, cost reporting, and monitoring project controls during execution.
Candidate Profile
- Proven substantial experience estimating for large-scale civil infrastructure ventures.
- Preferred experience with marine, waterfront, port, wharf, or coastal infrastructure projects.
- Strong proficiency in first-principles estimating techniques.
- Good understanding of temporary works, staging procedures, construction methodologies, and scheduling.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Exceptional commercial insight and risk evaluation capabilities.
- Effective stakeholder management skills and excellent communication abilities.
- Relevant qualifications such as Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or recognized equivalent experience in the field.
