Role Overview
The Senior Principal Engineer will take on a critical technical leadership role, orchestrating the transformation of engineering processes using AI, enhancing architectural standards for large-scale distributed systems, and establishing common platforms that promote autonomy and efficiency across teams within the Consumer Experience & Integrity (CXI) division. This division encompasses diverse areas such as Trust, Safety, Identity, SuperApp architecture, and more.
Key Responsibilities
- Revolutionize the software development life cycle (SDLC) by integrating AI methods beyond simple coding tools to an AI-native engineering culture, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.
- Develop and implement architectural and engineering frameworks including AI platforms, knowledge systems, evaluation mechanics, testing strategies, and governance to allow safer and scalable autonomous engineering workflows.
- Architect robust, highly scalable, and reliable distributed systems supporting critical consumer-facing and integrity services.
- Resolve challenges related to scalability, performance, security, resilience, and cost while instituting architectural strategies to prevent systemic failures broadly rather than addressing isolated incidents.
- Identify and design shared platform capabilities that serve multiple domains like mobility, food delivery, financial services, and digital products to optimize resource reuse across the Grab ecosystem.
- Enable autonomous engineering teams by establishing reference architectures, reusable design patterns, technical principles, and guardrails that empower teams to make independent decisions while ensuring consistency across the organization.
- Serve as a multiplier effect by collaborating across engineering and product leaders, providing several layers of architectural guidance and influence without direct reporting lines.
Qualifications
- Over 12 years in software engineering and system design, with a minimum of 5 years in leadership roles such as principal engineer or architect.
- Proven experience driving AI-driven engineering transformations including coding agents, agentic workflows, automated evaluations, and building engineering guardrails.
- Expertise in architecting large, high-availability distributed systems supporting millions of users with rigorous reliability and uptime requirements.
- Experience in creating or leading cross-functional shared platform initiatives adopted broadly across products or business units.
- Demonstrated ability to lead architectural initiatives across teams and influence senior technical leaders in a collaborative environment.
