About the Treasury and the Role
Join the Treasury - Te Tai Ōhanga's New Zealand Debt Management (NZDM) division in Wellington, dedicated to shaping a prosperous and sustainable financial future for Aotearoa New Zealand. As the Government’s principal economic and financial adviser, the Treasury tackles critical issues including fiscal policy, climate change, health, and housing to elevate living standards for all. NZDM plays a vital role in executing government borrowing, maintaining financial market stability, and conducting sustainable fiscal policy.
The Portfolio Management team at NZDM manages the Crown’s borrowing and liquidity requirements while providing corporate treasury services to manage financial market risks for government departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct tenders and syndications for government securities.
- Oversee portfolios comprising liquid financial assets.
- Mitigate financial market risks through foreign exchange and interest rate derivative transactions.
- Offer financial market guidance to other government agencies.
Candidate Profile
The ideal Senior Portfolio Manager is a proactive professional with extensive experience (minimum five years) handling complex risks in foreign exchange, interest rate, and credit markets. You possess the ability to innovate, resolve challenges efficiently, and make sound decisions under pressure and complex environments. Strong communication skills, personal integrity, and effective relationship management are essential.
