About the Role

Join a central government team responsible for influencing New Zealand's economy through tax and economic development policy advice. As an Analyst or Senior Analyst, you will engage with critical economic and fiscal issues, shaping advice that informs key government decisions. This position covers diverse policy domains such as taxation, regional growth, innovation, immigration, and labor market policies. The role is dynamic and often linked to prominent government initiatives including the annual Budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate economic analysis and policy advice with inter-agency coordination to assist Ministers in decision-making.
• Contribute to government Budget projects, reform policies, and other significant programs.
• Help refine Treasury's perspectives on fiscal and economic development strategies.
• Collaborate with Treasury colleagues and other agencies to deliver evidence-based policy recommendations.
• Analyze complex challenges using a balanced approach considering economic, fiscal, implementation, and risk factors.

Candidate Profile

While economic and fiscal analytical skills are useful, the focus is on understanding societal, business, and national implications. Candidates should demonstrate strong written and oral communication, intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, teamwork ability, initiative, adaptability, and eagerness for personal growth. A tertiary qualification is required. Experience in public policy and economic frameworks is advantageous but not mandatory. For Senior Analyst roles, a minimum of approximately four and a half years of relevant experience is typical.

About the Team

The Revenue and Economic Development team, within the Economic Performance Division, plays a vital role in providing evidence-based advice to enhance microeconomic conditions in New Zealand. The team collaborates internally and with agencies such as the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and Inland Revenue.
