Role Overview

Joining as an Analyst or Senior Analyst within the Budget team, you will contribute key insights to guide government decision-making aimed at improving living standards. Your role will involve close collaboration with various Treasury sectors to deliver coherent advice that guides budget decisions with a solid economic and fiscal viewpoint. This position entails significant visibility and development opportunities, balancing individual contributions with teamwork on crucial Treasury outputs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of advice addressing Budget strategy, processes, package development, production, and public financial management presented to Ministers.
• Support formulation of the Budget package, working alongside the Minister of Finance, their office, and senior Treasury officials.
• In some cases, provide technical advice on Budget processes including baseline updates, Estimates, and Specific Fiscal Risks.
• Manage particular Budget and fiscal projects across Treasury operations.
• Foster strong interdepartmental relationships to ensure consistent, high-quality advice delivery.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrated interest in public financial management and Budget processes.
• Proven ability to communicate clear, concise, and effective advice to senior decision-makers.
• Strong relationship management skills with a collaborative influence across diverse stakeholders; Senior Analysts ideally have experience liaising with Ministers.
• Competence in managing projects from inception to completion.
• Adaptability to shifting or uncertain environments.
• Senior Analyst candidates should have a minimum of five years’ relevant experience, including leadership roles in processes, personnel, or policy advisement.

Employment Details

These are full-time, permanent positions (40 hours per week) based in Wellington, New Zealand.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary ranges from NZD 91,339 to 107,458 for Analysts, and NZD 127,622 to 150,143 for Senior Analysts, determined by skills and experience.
