Opportunity Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Policy Analyst to spearhead the formulation of high-caliber policy advice presented to Ministers on intricate, ambiguous, and sensitive matters. The role encompasses conducting comprehensive policy research and analysis, utilizing rigorous analytical frameworks to devise well-founded options and recommendations.

You will be responsible for managing several multifaceted policy initiatives or programmes, including aspects such as project planning, risk management, progress reporting, and ensuring quality compliance. Collaborating closely with implementation teams will be critical to embed practical guidance into policy development from the outset. Additionally, the position requires establishing and nurturing relationships across government entities and external stakeholders, contributing to collaborative policy directions as needed.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong track record in leading public policy analysis and delivering governmental advice on complex social, economic, regulatory, or related topics. A robust understanding of New Zealand's government operations and legislative cycles is essential, with preferred familiarity in Cabinet procedures and Budget decision-making. Proficiency in applying diverse quantitative and qualitative analytical methods with discretion is expected.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary, enabling clear presentation of sophisticated issues. The candidate should excel in stakeholder engagement, capable of influencing multiple parties and managing divergent viewpoints effectively. Cultural awareness toward Māori values, including comprehension of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and their relevance to policy formulation, is a vital component.

This is a permanent role based in Wellington CBD, involving a standard 40-hour workweek.
