Job Overview
Join GHD as a Senior Planner in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand, contributing to delivering environmentally sustainable projects across transport, water, renewable energy, and social infrastructure sectors. You will work within a motivated team of engineers, scientists, planners, and environmental specialists committed to improving communities and the environment globally.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assist in preparing detailed environmental assessments and planning approval submissions for interdisciplinary projects.
- Serve as Project Manager on routine assignments, ensuring collaboration with stakeholders and maintaining a positive client experience throughout project execution.
- Partner with a nationwide planner team, learn from senior technical directors, and mentor junior planners to uphold quality client outcomes.
- Take the lead in preparing proposals and actively pursue business growth opportunities through client engagement.
- Pursue professional growth via mentoring, training, participation in industry organizations, and involvement in GHD’s global technical networks.

- Utilize or develop skills in community and stakeholder engagement to design and implement consultation strategies as needed.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree with at least eight years of environmental planning experience.
- Full membership or candidacy with the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
- Demonstrated technical planning expertise within regional or local government, or private sector focusing on infrastructure project consents.
- Experience managing projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and financial oversight.
- Proven client relationship management and business development capabilities.
- Beneficial experience in community and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proactive, decisive, and skilled problem solver.
- Analytical mindset, energetic and self-motivated.
- Collaborative and innovative thinker committed to cross-disciplinary solutions.
