Overview
Join GHD's Centre of Excellence Controllership team as a Financial Accountant supporting operations across New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea. This role focuses on precise financial reporting, statutory accounting, compliance, tax activities, cashflow management, banking processes, and payroll-related financial information. You'll work closely with Finance and operational teams to deliver accurate financial outcomes while contributing to continuous improvement and global best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct monthly journal entry reviews and postings during month-end processes for the NZ Pacific operations.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare reconciliations, and develop supporting working papers.
- Handle statutory accounting responsibilities including group reporting packages, preparation of local financial statements, and audit liaison.
- Manage cashflow forecasts and process occasional bank payments.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll-related journals and provisions, ensuring confidentiality and correct accounting treatment.
- Collaborate with the tax team to support New Zealand tax compliance matters.
- Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to provide timely information, resolve queries, and aid decision-making.
- Drive process improvements, standardisation efforts, and align work practices with global policies.
- Uphold rigorous documentation, maintain control discipline, and adhere to professional ethics and confidentiality standards.
- Support a high-performance Finance environment through teamwork, accountability, and ongoing development.
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in finance or accounting roles.
- Bachelor's degree with an accounting major or equivalent qualification.
- Professional certification such as CA, CPA, or equivalent is valued, or candidates working toward these qualifications.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, statutory accounting, financial controls, reconciliation, and preparation of financial statements.
- Experience with cashflow management, banking, payroll finance activities, and audit processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with TM1 and BI reporting tools is advantageous.
- Deep knowledge of New Zealand's tax laws and local compliance requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and collaborative approach within Finance and operational teams.
- Practical, hands-on mindset aiming to enhance processes and sustain strong financial controls.
- Strong ethical standards, discretion, and commitment to compliance.
Work Environment
