Key Responsibilities

  • Select appropriate materials for both offshore and onshore facilities by assessing environmental factors such as corrosive conditions, temperature, and pressure.
  • Formulate and apply corrosion control strategies, including cathodic protection, coatings, and the use of inhibitors.
  • Advise on compatibility of materials and coatings with fluids and gases involved in operations.
  • Develop and execute asset integrity initiatives such as risk-based inspection (RBI) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Investigate material failures through root cause analysis and suggest corrective measures.
  • Assess and recommend on fitness-for-service evaluations for aging infrastructure.
  • Ensure all work aligns with international standards including NACE, ASME, API, ISO, and ASTM.
  • Stay informed of regional regulations and client-specific criteria.
  • Support front-end engineering design (FEED), detailed engineering, and EPC phases concerning material and corrosion matters.
  • Work collaboratively with Process, Mechanical, and Piping teams to incorporate corrosion mitigation into designs.
  • Review and approve material requisitions, technical bids, and vendor documentation.

Qualifications and Accreditation

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Mandatory accreditation by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) with willingness to obtain it during probation if not currently held.
  • Highly desirable certifications include NACE credentials such as CIP Level 3, CP Technologist, or Corrosion Specialist.
  • Possession or pursuit of Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status is advantageous.

Industry Experience

  • Extensive experience in materials and corrosion engineering within offshore and onshore oil and gas sectors.
  • Strong background in FEED, detailed design, and EPC project phases.
  • Knowledge of LNG, FPSO, and subsea systems is a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of material characteristics, corrosion processes, and mitigation techniques.
  • Experience using corrosion modeling tools like ECE, NORSOK, or equivalents.
  • Expertise in cathodic protection system design for impressed current and sacrificial anode methods.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welding and fabrication processes affecting material integrity.

Software and Tools Proficiency

  • Skilled in using engineering stress analysis packages such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with integrity management and RBI software including DNV Synergi and API RBI.
