Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior GIS Analyst to develop and implement geospatial solutions primarily for transportation projects. The role involves collaborating in a professional setting with engineers, environmental scientists, and transportation planners. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills across technical and non-technical groups and have expertise with Esri GIS software. The ideal professional is passionate, self-driven, eager to learn, and skilled in applying GIS technologies to solve complex problems. This position requires cartographic skills, database design, spatial analysis, and web GIS application development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and independently manage large-scale spatial analyses, acting as project manager or GIS team lead using Esri ArcGIS software.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to design and apply GIS technologies effectively on transportation planning initiatives.
- Provide technical GIS leadership and guidance to team members and power users.
- Contribute to project marketing, budgeting, and resource scheduling as the GIS lead.
- Draft project scopes and fee estimates during proposal phases.
- Develop and enforce GIS quality assurance plans.
- Supervise GIS tasks performed by other professionals, ensuring successful project completion.
- Create vector and raster spatial analysis models utilizing tools like ModelBuilder, Python, or other GIS scripting languages.
- Design and implement geodatabase schemas and analytical methods tailored to project objectives.
- Develop and maintain web GIS applications using Esri platforms such as Experience Builder, Dashboards, Story Maps, Hub, Field Maps, and Survey123 via ArcGIS Online.
- Produce maps, applications, databases, and other deliverables promptly as required.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Perform additional related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Geographic Information Systems, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 6 to 10 or more years of hands-on GIS experience; masters or advanced degree may substitute for up to 3 years of experience.
- Comprehensive experience with Esri Desktop ArcGIS software, including extensions like ModelBuilder, Python scripting, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and Linear Referencing.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and extensive skills in cartography and data visualization.
- In-depth knowledge of geospatial principles, methodologies, and their transportation project applications.
- Extensive experience with ArcGIS Online and products such as Web App Builder, Story Maps, Collector, and Survey123.
- Expertise in geodatabase development, including schema design, domains, subtypes; familiarity with Access and SQL databases.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and effective time management.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, remain organized, and meet strict client deadlines.
- Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- GISP and Esri certifications.
- Experience with graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator to enhance GIS map quality.
- Familiarity with FME for ETL processes.
- Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and Portal for ArcGIS Server.
- Skill in scripting, database administration, and software development is advantageous.
- Preference for local candidates.
