Role Overview

The Senior Estimator position is critical in leading the creation, assessment, and submission of first-principles cost estimates for significant civil infrastructure tenders. These projects typically range from $50 million to over $500 million. Within the Precontracts team, you will contribute to pursuits in strategic sectors such as transport infrastructure, water, defense, and renewable energy, helping to secure landmark projects across Australia.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements with precision.
• Prepare, review, and integrate comprehensive first-principles cost estimates for major infrastructure projects.
• Formulate successful estimating strategies across transport, water, defense, and renewable energy markets.
• Manage quantity take-offs, pricing build-ups, and ensure validation for accuracy and consistency.
• Lead evaluation of risks and opportunities, formulate commercial assumptions, and develop contingencies.
• Oversee supplier and subcontractor engagement, including market testing, aligning scopes, and analyzing quotes.
• Provide commercial and contractual guidance for various delivery models including Design & Construct, EPC, Alliance, and Construct-Only.
• Collaborate with operations teams to confirm methodologies, construction strategies, and resource allocations.
• Enhance estimating tools, benchmarking resources, templates, and digital workflow processes.
• Mentor and support estimators to build capabilities and standardize estimating practices.
• Assist with bid presentations, client engagement, and senior-level tender reviews.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Documented success delivering competitive, first-principles estimates for projects worth $50 million to beyond $500 million.
• Advanced commercial understanding combined with knowledge of construction methods, risk management, and project execution.
• Hands-on site construction background to support practical and executable estimating approaches.
• Proven leadership in developing estimating staff and enhancing bid efficacy.
• Strong collaborative skills with the ability to influence key stakeholders to secure major infrastructure contracts.
