Senior Estimator

About the Role

A well-established construction and development firm operating in Sydney and the Southern Highlands, specializing in luxury residential projects, heritage restorations, and sizable private residences, is searching for a Senior Estimator. This individual will oversee cost planning and tendering processes across a range of prestigious projects including landmark harbourside homes and historically significant heritage properties.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive cost plans, feasibility studies, and tender prices at all phases from concept design to construction documentation.
• Manage the tender process end-to-end, including assembling tender documents, coordinating pricing with subcontractors and suppliers, assessing bids, and negotiating project scopes and values.
• Create and update detailed material and trade take-offs along with benchmarking databases across varying construction types.
• Collaborate closely with architects, consultants, and site and project managers to address challenges related to buildability, construction scheduling, and cost risks throughout the design phase.
• Monitor cost changes, inflation, and market trends on ongoing projects, providing risk analysis and mitigation strategies.
• Deliver cost-related presentations and advice to clients and senior leadership, particularly for high-value and prominent projects.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 8 to 10 years of experience in estimating for upscale residential construction.
• Proven ability to estimate and complete projects exceeding $20 million in value.
• Expertise in both new construction and complicated renovation or heritage refurbishment projects is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Buildsoft and strong skills in Excel for cost modelling.
• Excellent negotiation capabilities with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
• Strong attention to detail combined with sound commercial judgment in managing complex, high-spec builds.
• Effective communication skills and confidence in presenting cost evaluations directly to clients and senior stakeholders.
