About the Role
An established international freight forwarding company in Murarrie, Brisbane, is seeking an experienced Import Operations Coordinator. This is a comprehensive role involving full ownership of import freight shipments from the initial job registration through to final delivery. The successful candidate will manage a dedicated client portfolio and oversee all aspects of international sea and air freight import operations, ensuring efficient coordination with Customs, Quarantine, and various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for managing end-to-end import shipments via sea and air freight.
- Register new shipment jobs and accurately open and maintain relevant shipment files.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for a dedicated portfolio of clients.
- Coordinate logistics with overseas agents, shipping lines, airlines, and other service providers.
- Monitor cargo movements from origin to arrival in Australia.
- Prepare and manage necessary documentation for Customs clearance and Quarantine/Biosecurity compliance.
- Collaborate closely with the internal Customs team to facilitate smooth clearance processes.
- Coordinate inspections, holds, and any additional clearance requirements.
- Arrange container transport, cartage, and last-mile delivery services.
- Liaise effectively with transport providers, depots, and terminal operators.
- Ensure timely final delivery of cargo to customers.
- Provide clients with proactive and regular updates regarding shipment status.
- Manage shipment documentation, costings, accruals, and supplier invoicing efficiently.
- Identify and resolve any delays or operational challenges swiftly to minimize customer impact.
- Develop and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with client portfolio.
Requirements
- Proven experience in international freight forwarding or import operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end import freight processes.
- Ability to independently manage a portfolio of customers.
- Familiarity with Customs and Quarantine/Biosecurity procedures.
- Experience handling sea freight imports; air freight knowledge is a plus.
- Good understanding of cartage and final delivery logistics.
- Exceptional customer service and communication capabilities.
- Strong multitasking skills to handle multiple concurrent shipments and deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent document/file management.
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to anticipate and mitigate operational issues.
- Previous experience with CargoWise software is highly beneficial.
Compensation and Benefits
This permanent full-time position is based at Murarrie, Brisbane, with a salary range of $75,000 to $100,000 plus superannuation, commensurate with experience. The role is ideal for a freight operator who prefers comprehensive ownership of shipments over working in a segmented forwarding environment.
