Job description

About Parloa

Parloa aims to become a leading AI Platform company serving Fortune 2000 enterprises with its innovative Agent Management Platform (AMP), currently evolving into the core AI Agent Management layer for enterprise-level AI transformation. With a rapidly growing global customer base, Parloa is building Europe's premier engineering team to set global standards in engineering excellence.

The company's mission revolves around delivering reliable, robust, and enterprise-grade AI solutions swiftly, competing fiercely with major tech firms and AI-first startups. The engineering structure is composed of three segments: Customer Experience Automation (CXA), Product Platform, and Technology Platform, collectively creating a versatile Customer Experience Platform based on modular Packaged Business Capabilities (PBCs) akin to AWS-level granularity.

Role Overview

The Senior Engineering Manager role encompasses managing delivery and business results across a broad or complex scope such as multiple teams or particularly challenging problem domains. This position requires increased strategic perspective and resilience, including independently communicating with senior leadership and handling complex conflicts within and across teams.

Key aspects include owning the narrative for cross-team efforts, resolving escalated people and prioritization issues, and building future leadership through nurturing tech leads and senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery and set key milestones, quality standards, and manage dependencies over multiple teams or domains.
  • Collaborate with Product leadership to define strategy and roadmap, quantifying engineering impact in commercial terms like revenue and retention.
  • Develop clear, durable communications and artifacts (plans, RFCs, escalation memos, postmortems) that last beyond immediate stakeholders.
  • Guide coherent technical direction by working with Staff and Principal engineers, managing technical debt, and fostering experimentation.
  • Maintain operational excellence in areas such as incident response, on-call practices, reliability targets, cost tracking, and actively removing blockers across teams.
  • Design and optimize the operational model including roles, ownership, rotational schedules, performance metrics, and resource allocation plans.
  • Recruit and develop senior individual contributors and emerging leaders, building a strong talent pipeline and driving performance calibration.
  • Address systemic issues by fixing recurrent problems at their root cause rather than isolated symptoms.

Candidate Profile

  • Experienced engineering leader with typically over a decade in software development and 4-6+ years leading people.
  • Proven ability to influence senior executives with clear, concise, and trade-off focused communication.
  • Track record of developing leaders including transitions of tech leads to managers, or senior engineers to staff-level roles.
  • Technically savvy, collaborating closely with senior engineers to shape direction while enabling autonomy.
  • Commercially astute, capable of discussing cost, outputs, and financial impact effectively with product and finance teams.
  • Skilled in handling complex interpersonal challenges and making difficult prioritization decisions proactively.
  • Resilient under pressure, able to revive stalled initiatives and sustain engineer morale without micromanagement.

Role Characteristics

  • This role is more than an enlarged Engineering Manager position—it demands substantial scope, complexity, and impact.
  • It is not primarily a path to managing other managers; it requires substantial hands-on leadership without lessening people responsibilities.
  • Maintaining close connections with teams remains crucial, with no reduction in people management duties.

Why Join Parloa?

  • Influence enterprise AI's future in a high-potential, disruptive market.
  • Collaborate with elite engineering and leadership talent in a lean, innovation-driven structure.
  • Work in a culture that prizes ownership, autonomy, and continuous improvement.
  • Benefit from rapid organizational growth with expanding career advancement prospects.
  • Contribute to establishing a top-tier European engineering organization competing globally with major tech firms.

Recruitment Process

Includes stages of Recruiter Interview, Peer Interview, 360° Technical Interview Loop, and Bar Raiser Interview.
