Senior Engineering Manager, API Hub

About the Role

Bentley Systems is seeking a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead a talented team in developing the Bentley Developer Platform. This end-to-end technical platform supports developers from sign-up through API consumption, metering, billing, settlement, and API/MCP standards and registry. You will manage a team of roughly eight engineers working across portal, infrastructure, QA, and security domains. This role requires strong delivery ownership, technical expertise, and active involvement in coding.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of delivering the platform components such as the API gateway, metering pipeline, billing integration, and settlement systems.
• Recruit, organize, and lead approximately eight engineers including Portal, Platform Infrastructure, QA/Automation, and a matrixed Security Engineer.
• Manage sprint planning, delivery cadence, and release processes to ensure a steady and reliable deployment pipeline.
• Partner with the Senior Principal Engineer to make technical decisions and actively contribute code alongside the team.
• Deliver key platform milestones including an API gateway with OAuth authentication, developer portal, commercial models, and live usage/meters dashboards.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management to translate product specifications into functional software solutions.
• Oversee Level 2 developer support for API integration, authentication, and performance issues and coordinate escalation of Level 3 issues to product teams.
• Work alongside Security and Legal teams to ensure compliance with security standards and deployment policies.

Candidate Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in engineering leadership or management.
• Proven success in building monetized developer platforms, commercial SaaS products, or API ecosystems in fast-growing organizations.
• Ability to dive into the codebase to unblock the team effectively.
• Strong expertise in modern cloud infrastructure, API gateways, event-driven architecture, and both front-end and back-end development.
• Experience with OAuth-based authentication, billing systems integration, and operating API gateway solutions.
• Excellent delivery discipline with solid skills in sprint planning, release management, and meeting aggressive delivery deadlines.
• Demonstrated skill in hiring and quickly building high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience working in federated or matrix organizations with shared accountability is advantageous.
• Outstanding communication skills for engaging with engineering, product, and cross-functional partners.
