Job description

About Camunda

Camunda is an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, helping organizations synchronize AI agents, people, and systems across complex business workflows. Offering built-in governance, auditability, and human oversight, Camunda enables enterprises to safely scale AI from pilot phases to full production. With over 700 global customers including 9 of the top 10 US banks, Camunda enhances operational efficiency, quickens value realization, and improves customer experiences.

This is a fully remote, global role at a company transforming into an AI-first organization, using its own platform to automate and orchestrate intelligent processes that augment human efforts throughout the company.

Role Overview

As Camunda evolves Camunda 8 as the leading agentic orchestration solution, the Senior Software Engineer on the Engineering Operations team will drive engineering excellence by designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable core processes for development efficiency, reliability, and quality across Camunda 8 codebases and engineering processes.

Your mission is to create an autonomous, frictionless internal development lifecycle that supports the AI-first approach, working closely with infrastructure and core software teams to deliver smooth developer workflows, strong dependency management, and continuous CI improvements. This will enable engineering teams to focus on core product development effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition to automated, AI-augmented engineering lifecycles, implementing unified processes like AI-assisted release management, autonomous dependency updates, and proactive CVE fixes within the Camunda 8 repositories.
  • Apply a metric-driven approach to continuously improve CI/release health and development speed, removing bottlenecks in AI-first workflows.
  • Work with stakeholders to define and execute the CI strategy and engineering best practices, positively impacting the wider engineering organization.
  • Identify and automate friction points in workflows, evolving them into self-sustaining systems capable of supporting increased AI-augmented development volume, collaborating across teams and leadership.

Candidate Profile - Must Haves

  • Proven strength in software engineering delivery, ideally with Java expertise.
  • Experience specializing in fullstack or backend development.
  • A passion for operational engineering excellence beyond coding, including CI/CD, dependency management, release process optimization, metrics gathering, and build efficiency, adopting a DevOps mindset and ownership of end-to-end engineering processes.
  • Strong background with CI build tools such as GitHub Actions, Maven, and Docker, plus automation skills in Shell or Python for large complex projects like monorepos.
  • Effective cross-team collaboration with experience delivering impactful solutions in platform settings.
  • Familiarity with developer experience tools, process optimization, and facilitation of AI adoption.
  • Comfort with the "you build it, you run it" philosophy, taking accountability for codebase and deployment operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing efficient cross-team engineering operations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Camunda or other BPMN systems.
