Job description

About the Role and Impact

You will be part of a compact team focused on creating tools, platforms, and best practices that empower engineers across the organization to leverage AI effectively. This position involves full ownership of projects from initial experimentation through to production deployment, including developing run books, establishing monitoring protocols, and designing rollback strategies to ensure dependable operation once in daily use.

This role holds significant influence, offering the opportunity to direct the evolution of an internal skills marketplace and AI distribution platform utilized throughout the engineering organization. You will liaise directly with technology partners such as AWS, Microsoft, and GitHub on early-stage, unreleased tech and support guiding a team in the early phases of adopting AI.

Team and Work Environment

The AI Enablement team operates within Engineering Experience, focusing on enhancing product engineering efficiency via practical AI platforms and tooling beyond typical solutions. The team is distributed across Melbourne, Sydney, and the Sunshine Coast, collaborating closely and regularly syncing with a product manager located in Wellington. They maintain strong team cohesion despite geographical distances.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Utilize and expand expertise in the existing stack, including C#, .NET, AWS, along with Python and TypeScript for AI tool development.
  • Develop and maintain the internal skills marketplace and AI tool distribution platform for use across the engineering division.
  • Create guidance and best practices for authoring agent skills, focusing on automation tasks such as issue remediation.
  • Engage directly with vendors like AWS, Microsoft, and GitHub on cutting-edge technologies pending market release.

Work Location and Style

Applicants may be based anywhere in Australia, with consideration for candidates located in New Zealand. The team follows a hybrid work model, adept at bridging time zones, and regularly organizes in-person gatherings for planning and collaboration.

Candidate Profile

  • Practical software engineering experience, particularly with C#, .NET, and AWS technologies; candidates with different backgrounds but quick adaptation ability are encouraged.
  • Proven track record building internal tools or platforms actively used by engineers.
  • Strong commitment to production discipline, including runbook documentation, monitoring frameworks, and rollback planning prior to deployment.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively persuade and align stakeholders beyond simply delivering code.
  • Keen interest in AI-native tool development and an ongoing awareness of emerging trends in AI engineering.
  • Capability to respectfully challenge decisions and embrace continuous learning through quality-focused methods.

Additional Information

We encourage applicants even if their experience does not perfectly align; hiring decisions prioritize skills, enthusiasm, and unique perspectives to enrich our team and culture.
