Job description
Role & Impact
As a Senior Product Manager specializing in the Banking Experience at Xero, you will lead the development of the reconciliation review process, enhancing the layer that oversees the Auto Bank Rec (ABR) system. ABR leverages AI to automatically reconcile bank transactions, and as this automation grows, the review experience becomes essential for building customer trust and speeding up healthy reconciliation. Your goal is to advance from manual reviews to a management-by-exception model where routine reconciliations are handled automatically, requiring human intervention only for decisions needing judgement.
Responsibilities
- Acclimate quickly to the current Auto Bank Rec and review process to prioritize immediate product roadmap items.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to further develop the management-by-exception approach, reducing manual checks.
- Define and implement key success indicators, evaluation frameworks, and dashboards to monitor automation quality, review efforts, and time-to-value.
- Create consensus-driven product requirements in partnership with design and engineering for advancing AI-native reconciliation solutions.
Team Environment
You will join a dynamic team of Product Managers in New Zealand who manage various areas of the banking experience. Working seamlessly with engineering pods, UX designers, and global stakeholders across time zones, the team encourages data-driven idea exchange and translates concepts into impactful software.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in B2B SaaS product management, especially with complex feature definitions involving automation, AI/ML workflows, or high-trust review applications.
- Proven ability to evolve a product area from initial ambiguity into a clear, evidence-supported strategy.
- Comfort and experience in collaborating with technical teams, including engineers and machine learning specialists, to influence technical choices and define model evaluation metrics while balancing automation and trust considerations.
- Strong analytical skills utilizing data, user logs, and direct feedback to guide decisions.
- Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills suited to cross-timezone collaboration.
- A cooperative approach, thriving in partnership with fellow Product Managers, UX designers, and cross-functional teams.
Work Location and Conditions
This role is based in Wellington, New Zealand and is part of a global banking organization. The position supports a hybrid working model, combining onsite collaborative days with focused home-based work.
