Position Overview

We seek a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Dubai site office. The ideal candidate will be experienced in electrical design and engineering related to medium voltage (MV) distribution and power systems. They will have the expertise to manage electrical scopes independently for large and complex projects, proficiently handling design calculations and documentation, navigating utility and authority approvals, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to assure compliant, reliable, and maintainable electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and advance electrical power system design encompassing MV distribution, LV interfaces, substations, transformers, switchgear, standby generators, UPS systems, critical power, earthing, and lightning protection.
  • Develop and verify electrical design calculations and studies such as load scheduling, cable sizing, voltage drops, load flow, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, relay settings, and arc flash evaluations.
  • Prepare and review design reports, specifications, single-line diagrams, drawings, bills of quantities, technical queries, and design response documents.
  • Manage DEWA design submissions including 11kV and substation applications, metering, load schedules, and NOC packages, steering them through authority approval to energization.
  • Define architectures for standby generators, synchronization, UPS, and critical power systems with attention to essential loads, resilience, selectivity, maintainability, and operational parameters.
  • Specify and coordinate explosion-proof and hazardous area electrical requirements for classified zones such as fuel, paint, chemical, and maintenance areas, including equipment certification and installation guidelines.
  • Review vendor submissions for switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS units, protection relays, cables, and other electrical equipment, assessing datasheets, inspection and test plans, factory and site acceptance testing, and compliance certificates.
  • Coordinate electrical power needs with mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, ELV/ICT, controls, civil, utility, architecture, structural, BIM/CAD, and construction teams.
  • Lead meetings and workshops for design reviews, technical clarifications, and coordination with utilities and authorities, ensuring resolution of technical comments.
  • Provide technical support during testing, commissioning, energization planning, and operational handover phases of electrical power systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Professional chartered status is a plus.
  • At least 12 years of electrical engineering experience focused on design and engineering, including a minimum of 6 years dedicated to electrical design of MV distribution and power systems within the UAE.
  • Proven ability to manage full electrical design scopes independently on major complex projects, as opposed to predominantly site supervision or construction roles.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of DEWA regulations, standards, authority requirements, and approval processes, including 11kV submissions, substation approvals, metering, load schedules, NOC, and energization procedures.
  • Experience in airport or aviation facility projects, especially in critical power infrastructure such as substations, hangars, MRO facilities, fuel areas, or large operational facilities.
  • Familiarity with major building or infrastructure projects is advantageous.
  • Strong expertise in design elements such as 11kV switchgear, ring main units, transformers, protection coordination, relay settings, earthing and lightning protection systems, standby generators, synchronization, UPS, critical power systems, load flow, short-circuit, and arc flash studies.
  • Knowledge in explosion-proof and ATEX electrical requirements including IEC 60079 compliant equipment selection, certification review, cable glanding, sealing, and hazardous zone classification.
  • Experience in evaluating vendor documentation, equipment datasheets, quality inspection plans, testing protocols, and commissioning paperwork.
  • Well-versed in international standards such as IEC 60076, IEC 60079, IEC 61439, BS 7671 or NEC, as well as DEWA regulations, IEEE 141/242, and applicable UAE codes.
  • Clear and effective communication skills to defend design choices and coordinate multidisciplinary teams including BIM/CAD, procurement, clients, contractors, suppliers, and authorities.
  • Fluency in English, leadership qualities, analytical mindset, and strong technical report writing capabilities.

What We Offer

  • A collaborative environment with a forward-thinking and innovative team.
  • Engagement with projects at the forefront of Middle East and North Africa's developmental landscape.
  • Tailored professional and personal development opportunities to support your career growth.
