Job Role Overview
We are seeking a Fire Protection Engineer for our Dubai site office who has solid expertise in fire protection engineering specifically in airports, aviation facilities, or large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects. The ideal candidate should confidently manage and review fire suppression systems in aircraft hangars, aviation facilities, and related developments, ensuring adherence to technical quality and safety standards while integrating multidisciplinary design elements.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and coordinate fire protection deliverables including systems such as sprinkler, standpipe, deluge, foam suppression, fire pumps, fire water storage, and external fire networks.
- Assess fire safety components for aircraft hangars and related aviation facilities, including foam suppression technology, deluge and monitor systems, foam concentrate handling, proportioning, and drainage/containment setups.
- Evaluate fire protection needs concerning fuel storage, flammable liquids, and hazardous material zones, taking into account containment measures, bunding, and spill retention integration with suppression systems.
- Handle coordination of external fire hydrant ring mains, fire water tanks, pumps, supply systems, civil utilities, and associated site infrastructure.
- Review technical documentation such as hydraulic calculations, design reports, specifications, schematics, equipment schedules, material submittals, method statements, BOQs, technical queries, and design responses.
- Prepare and review technical submissions and coordinate approvals with Dubai Civil Defence and other relevant authorities or stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely across architecture, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire alarm, controls, civil teams, utilities, BIM/CAD, construction, and commissioning divisions to ensure cohesive fire protection design integration.
- Participate in design workshops, technical meetings, quality checks, constructability reviews, test and commissioning preparations, and resolve interdisciplinary comments.
- Ensure all fire protection systems are designed and audited in compliance with relevant codes, safety principles, local authority standards, maintainability standards, and ARX’s quality procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; NICET certification or equivalent in fire protection is advantageous.
- Have extensive experience totaling between 7 to 12 years in fire protection engineering, with a minimum of 4 years specifically reviewing fire protection submittals in the Gulf region.
- Prior experience in airports or aviation facilities is essential, especially involving hangars, MRO facilities, foam suppression systems, fuel handling areas, or similarly scale operational developments.
- Strong knowledge of aircraft hangar fire suppression methods, including NFPA 409 standards, low/high expansion foam systems, AFFF and transitions to fluorine-free foams, deluge, monitors, foam storage, proportioning, and drainage systems.
- Experienced with sprinkler and standpipe infrastructure, fire pumps, water tanks, hydrant mains, and interfacing with external water supplies.
- Understanding of fire protection requirements linked to fuel and flammable liquid zones, focusing on containment, bunding, and spill retention protocols.
- Familiarity with fire protection authority approvals, notably Dubai Civil Defence or equivalent regional entities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, and 409 standards alongside Dubai Civil Defence codes and Gulf region fire safety regulations.
- Skilled in reviewing hydraulic calculations, technical drawings, specifications, submittals, BOQs, method statements, design documentation and commissioning reports.
- Middle East and UAE authority coordination experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills and proficiency in professional English.
- Immediate availability to join is highly sought after.
