Senior Electrical Engineer - Industrial Projects

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and execute electrical engineering designs on complex multidisciplinary projects spanning water, wastewater, mining, industrial manufacturing, energy, and food industries across New Zealand, Australia, and Asia. This role is open to qualified candidates throughout New Zealand.

You will be involved in major infrastructure and industrial developments from the conceptual stage through detailed design, procurement assistance, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations. Collaboration with process, mechanical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and controls teams is essential to develop engineering solutions that are safe, practical, and innovative. You will join a motivated team dedicated to driving impactful projects addressing real-world challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical project delivery, overseeing design scope, budgets, timelines, resources, and overall project management.
• Perform and supervise detailed design of electrical systems, including power distribution, low voltage networks, and related infrastructure within complex industrial and water projects.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and graduates by conducting technical reviews and verifying designs.
• Support all project phases from planning through commissioning, including preparing engineering estimates, proposals, procurement assistance, construction oversight, and commissioning.
• Build strong client relationships and contribute to business expansion through proposal development, tender submissions, repeat client engagements, and strategic initiatives.
• Promote health, safety, and quality excellence by participating in risk assessments, design safety reviews, and continuous process improvements.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a qualified Electrical Engineer with at least 10 years of pertinent experience. You demonstrate extensive expertise in LV and MV electrical system design, power distribution, motor control, and electrical infrastructure for sizable capital projects. You excel as a project leader passionate about multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver practical and inventive engineering solutions that generate positive outcomes for clients and communities.

Additional Expertise

• Proven experience designing detailed electrical systems for heavy industrial, water, and wastewater projects within consultancy settings, including large greenfield and brownfield multidisciplinary developments.
• Solid familiarity with Australian and New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008), Electrical Safety Regulations, IEC and IEE Standards, and utility connection protocols.
• Proficiency with Powercad or comparable electrical modeling software.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience operating across New Zealand, Australia, and Asia-Pacific markets.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or eligibility to achieve chartership.
• Background in design and construction support activities.
• Experience in contractor and vendor management.
