Discipline Lead - Ecology

About the Role

Beca is searching for a seasoned ecology leader to head the ecology discipline, driving strategic leadership for the team while delivering significant environmental projects throughout New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific. This role involves steering a skilled team of ecologists by offering technical guidance and fostering a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor and nurture the ecology team to enhance skills and maintain a culture of high performance and cooperation.
• Manage and oversee complex ecological project deliveries from initial proposals to successful completion.
• Provide strategic oversight, technical direction, quality assurance, and peer reviews on diverse ecological projects.
• Develop, analyze, and review ecological impact assessments, detailed technical reports, and management plans.
• Establish and maintain robust connections with clients, mana whenua, regulatory bodies, and other significant stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across New Zealand, Australia, and the Pacific to produce integrated environmental solutions.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a degree in Ecology or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in leading complex ecological projects with proven capability in mentoring, capability development, and technical leadership within terrestrial or freshwater ecology.
• Expertise preparing ecological assessments, technical reports, and management plans, along with thorough knowledge of New Zealand's environmental legislation, policies, and regulatory environment.
• A well-established professional network paired with a successful track record in business development and expanding ecology services.
• Strong communication, mentorship, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Certification as an Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) – Ecology Specialist or progress toward certification.
• Familiarity with council hearings, Environment Court proceedings or Board of Enquiry processes is advantageous.
• Must hold New Zealand work rights and possess a current driver's license.
