Senior Automation Engineer

Role Overview

The Senior Automation Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering automation solutions tailored to client needs. This role demands overseeing all phases from project documentation, PLC and HMI development, simulation, commissioning, through to onsite customer implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and integrate detailed project data.
• Create and commission technical automation solutions.
• Manage projects effectively, ensuring timelines are met with clear communication.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues related to projects.
• Provide expertise and guidance to team members and clients.
• Promote and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations for self and mentees.
• Adhere to and support quality standards, company policies, and methodologies, mentoring others likewise.
• Enhance and refine quality standards, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in a paid on-call roster approximately once every six weeks.
• Travel domestically and potentially internationally for commissioning and implementation projects.
• Stay informed about new manufacturing trends and relevant technologies.
• Develop and maintain industry relationships to promote the company brand and explore revenue opportunities, including responding to business leads.
• Prepare tender submissions and quotations within budget and deadlines.
• Expected travel of 20%-30%, including mostly local and some Australia/New Zealand trips primarily during winter months.
• Paid overtime during peak seasons, ranging from 5-10 hours weekly with up to 20 hours at peak times (April to September).

Candidate Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in automation engineering, with expertise in complex automation solutions.
• Recent experience working within systems integration companies.
• Background in process-centric sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, or dairy manufacturing.
• Proficiency with multiple PLC platforms, ideally Rockwell and Schneider.
• Experience with version control, industry development standards, and emerging trends in areas including hardware, PLC and HMI software, database design, electronic reporting, standards, networks, and technical documentation.
• Strong team spirit with a commitment to fostering a collaborative environment through training, mentoring, and supporting colleagues to achieve shared objectives.
