Overview
POWERCHINA Jiangxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd (Dubai Branch) is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Secondary Systems focusing on Protection and Control to join their engineering team based in Dubai, UAE. This role supports international High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation projects across the Middle East and Africa, primarily within EPC environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed secondary engineering design for HV and EHV substations.
- Develop and review Protection & Control schematics, AC/DC diagrams, interlocking logic, wiring plans, and panel layouts.
- Prepare engineering documentation including I/O lists, cable schedules, interconnection diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Coordinate design efforts for Protection, Control, Metering, and Substation Automation systems.
- Support protection relay engineering and manage technical requirements related to relay protection schemes.
- Engage in engineering activities related to IEC 61850-based substation automation and communication networks.
- Evaluate vendor drawings, technical documents, and engineering submissions.
- Collaborate closely with Primary Design teams, SCADA & Telecom, Civil engineering, and other relevant disciplines.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Ensure all designs conform to project specifications, client demands, and international standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Have 5 to 8 years of practical experience in substation secondary design and protection & control engineering.
- Strong experience with HV/EHV substations, particularly with 132kV, 220kV and/or 400kV systems.
- In-depth knowledge of protection and control systems, relay protection technologies, AC/DC systems, and secondary system design.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850 protocols and other relevant international standards.
- Experience working for international EPC contractors, engineering consultancies, or leading power utilities.
- Prior involvement in UAE/GCC substation projects is preferable.
- Background with TAQA, TRANSCO, DEWA, or other major GCC utilities is a significant advantage.
- International EPC exposure across the Middle East and Africa region is desirable.
- Proficient English communication and strong skills in multidisciplinary engineering coordination.
Location Preference
Applicants currently residing in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE are highly favored, particularly those who can attend in-person interviews in Dubai with short notice.
Additional Information
The position operates from Dubai's Middle East & Africa Regional Headquarters for POWERCHINA JEPCC. The role requires close coordination with multiple engineering departments and vendors throughout all project phases.
