About the Team
The Enterprise Planning and Implementation group is newly formed to enhance coordination and prioritisation across WorkSafe. The Data, Analytics and AI team supports data-driven decision-making by managing data assets that underpin reporting, analytics, and organisational performance, valuing diverse perspectives and respect.
Role Overview
The Senior Data Engineer will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure data platforms and pipelines that support analytics, business intelligence, and AI initiatives at WorkSafe. The position involves integrating multiple complex data sources and solving challenging technical problems to unlock maximum value from the organisation's data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable data platforms and pipelines.
- Integrate diverse, complex data sources into dependable data assets.
- Develop and maintain robust ETL/ELT processes for analytics and reporting needs.
- Optimize data performance, availability, and reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve sophisticated data engineering challenges.
- Collaborate effectively with analysts, data scientists, and technical teams.
- Apply engineering best practices to support AI and analytics solutions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and deploying production-ready data platforms and pipelines.
- Strong experience building ETL/ELT solutions from multiple complex data sources.
- Hands-on familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures.
- Proficiency in data quality assurance, testing, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Relevant qualifications in Data Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields.
- Preferred familiarity with Azure data services such as Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, or equivalent platforms.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this full-time role is NZD 120,551 to 158,328 annually, with the expected starting salary between NZD 120,551 and 133,143 (additional employer KiwiSaver/SSRSS contributions apply). From April 1, 2026, employer KiwiSaver contributions will increase to 3.5%.

Additional Information
This permanent, full-time position can be based at any WorkSafe office location within New Zealand.
