Job description

About the Role

ZoomInfo is a dynamic workplace fostering rapid career growth, bold thinking, and impactful contributions. As part of our Enterprise Data Engineering team within the AI, Data, and Innovation division, the Senior Data Engineer will design and enhance our enterprise-wide data infrastructure. This enables diverse internal teams to engage comprehensively with our data assets.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and sustain scalable, product-focused data pipelines utilizing Airflow, DBT, and Python.
  • Architect and tune our substantial Snowflake-based data warehouse and lakehouse, safeguarding it as the authoritative source for all customer data.
  • Lead integration efforts for varied structured and unstructured data inputs such as web sources and third-party APIs to ensure dependable ingestion processes.
  • Set roadmap priorities anticipating internal stakeholder needs and enhancing data and AI competitive advantages.
  • Act as a strategic consultant to leadership on AI preparedness and data infrastructure investments.
  • Partner with ML engineers, data scientists, and product owners to transform business requirements into scalable, customer-centric data solutions.
  • Implement and uphold data quality service level agreements (SLAs), prioritizing accuracy and lineage across pipelines and products.
  • Participate in shared on-call rotations, managing pipeline and platform incidents, conducting root cause analyses, and executing remediation and postmortems.
  • Rapidly triage production issues, escalating appropriately based on severity and impact.
  • Navigate ambiguity by making informed decisions and iterating collaboratively rather than waiting for complete clarity.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering exemplary practices in code quality, data architecture, incident management, and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to architecture decision-making and strategic planning focusing on cost efficiency, high performance, reliability, and observability.
  • Maintain operational documentation such as runbooks and playbooks to streamline future incident resolution.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL for efficient, scalable querying on large datasets.
  • Strong Python development skills with expertise in distributed computing, data transformation, and robust API creation.
  • Hands-on experience managing large-scale batch and streaming data pipelines in production environments.
  • Proficiency with DBT for sophisticated data modeling and transformation workflows.
  • Deep understanding of Snowflake warehousing concepts including design, performance tuning, and cost management.
  • Experience with production system ownership, on-call rotations, incident response, and conducting post-incident reviews.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data architecture paradigms including data lakes, event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka), ETL/ELT processes, and data mesh models.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructures such as GCP and AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Monte Carlo, Grafana) to proactively manage data quality and pipeline health.
  • Understanding of CI/CD methodologies applied to data workflows including automated testing and version control for data models.

Non-Technical Competencies

  • Excellent communicative ability to clarify complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, particularly under pressure.
  • Strategic mindset capable of translating business targets and user needs into impactful data-focused solutions.
  • Leadership aptitude with a history of mentoring and elevating team performance.
  • Effective stakeholder collaboration across various departments and clear, timely communication during issues.
  • Decisive judgment amid uncertain conditions, balancing independence and consultation appropriately.
  • A sense of ownership encompassing full lifecycle responsibility including operational support.
  • Strong documentation practices and advocacy for organizational best practices.

Educational & Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Over eight years of progressive data engineering experience, demonstrating leadership and significant impact.
  • Proven ability to establish or scale data infrastructures within data-intensive product companies.
  • Experience participating in on-call rotations supporting production data systems.
