Role Summary

The Senior Data Engineer will fully manage data delivery processes from analyzing source systems and designing data architecture to modeling, building robust pipelines, and enabling analytics. This role demands leadership in data architecture combined with an analytical approach to convert complex data into trustworthy insights, working within multinational settings and occasionally visiting client sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the entire data lifecycle including gathering requirements, sourcing, architecting, modeling, pipeline development, maintaining quality, and delivering analytics-ready datasets.
• Transform business requirements into actionable delivery plans and create end-to-end data solutions accordingly.
• Establish and define future-state data architecture, infrastructure, and source integration tools ensuring automation of data ingestion.
• Design architectures including lakes, warehouses, and lakehouses covering all data stages—with integrated security, access control, privacy, and compliance.
• Conduct source system analysis to derive conceptual, logical, and physical data models, designing dimensional models (star and snowflake schemas) tailored to business needs.
• Apply full data model lifecycle techniques like normalization, denormalization, and advanced modeling fitting each scenario.
• Develop and sustain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines from varied sources such as databases, applications, files, and event streams.
• Implement frameworks for orchestration, scheduling, automated loads equipped with comprehensive logging, alerting, retry, and monitoring.
• Improve data processing and distributed computing for enhanced performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
• Create automated data cleansing and integration processes to maintain data integrity and quality.
• Map data flows to guarantee end-to-end data integrity, lineage, and quality assurance.
• Follow software-engineering standards including version control, peer reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration/delivery specific to data projects.
• Employ data quality validations, reconciliation methods, and observability practices throughout the data pipeline.
• Detect anomalies impeding progression to future architectures and devise remediation strategies.
• Govern enterprise data architecture standards, consistent naming conventions, documentation, metadata management, and data dictionaries for asset discoverability and uniformity.
• Drive modernization and migration of legacy data systems to contemporary platforms.
• Collaborate with IT and data custodians to catalog and align data assets with target architecture.
• Use statistical techniques to interpret data trends and patterns, generating actionable insights and ongoing visual reports.
• Investigate root causes behind data trends, questioning and defining methods for process enhancements.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and self-service reporting tools to support confident data-driven decision-making.
• Prioritize and translate business information needs into efficient technical data solutions involving IT and stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively across culturally diverse teams, manage ambiguity, demonstrate adaptability, and travel to client sites as required.
• Ensure adherence to policies for quality, health, safety, environment, business continuity, information security, privacy, risk, compliance, and governance.

Qualifications and Requirements

• At least 10 years of professional experience in the fields of data engineering, architecture, modeling, and analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Proven background as a data analyst with strong capabilities in statistical analysis and data visualization.
• Demonstrable experience delivering enterprise-scale data pipelines and platforms currently in production environments.
• Mandatory hands-on proficiency with Microsoft Azure data technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks/Synapse, ADLS Gen2, and Azure SQL.
• Expertise in writing advanced data queries, including complex logic, analytical functions, and performance optimizations.
• Proficient in at least one data engineering or data analysis programming language.
• Experience handling the full lifecycle of data modeling using industry-standard tools, with strong knowledge of dimensional schemas.
• Skilled in ETL/ELT design, workflow orchestration, data integration, and automation of data cleansing.
• Familiar with distributed data processing and handling large-scale big data.
• Knowledgeable in designing data warehousing and lake/lakehouse storage frameworks.
• Competent applying statistical methods to analyze datasets and deliver insights.
• Experienced with business intelligence and creating self-service reporting environments.
• Skilled in cloud data platform technologies covering ingestion, storage, processing, and delivery.
• Understanding of software engineering practices such as version control, continuous integration/delivery, and monitoring data quality.
• Strong problem-solving, communication skills, and a customer-focused mindset.
• Self-motivated, results-driven, inquisitive, and resilient with ability to adapt to ambiguity and travel requirements.
